Raul Lee Bhaskaran argues cases, writes software and puts out records, and has one explanation for all three: somebody is outmatched, and the odds can be moved. In court that has meant deaths in police custody, police shootings, public assembly, political defamation and the death penalty. It has meant speaking publicly on drug policy reform, and on the first hour after an arrest, when counsel makes the difference and is usually absent. His work with artists became ALIM, a non-profit legal clinic for Malaysia's creative communities, which gives its advice away. Elsewhere it means Axon Avenue PLT, where he builds the systems that take the admin out of a working week, and Sync Primitive, the independent label he founded, whose records are built for four in the morning. He also makes instruments for psychology and neuroscience, which is the same argument in a different room. Kuala Lumpur.
